时间回溯到上个世纪70年代初，正是美国的两个篮球组织并驾齐驱的辉煌时代：毫无疑问，NBA统领着竞技界，除此之外还有一个ABA，因为其离经叛道的天分和才能，以及华丽的技巧表演为主的作秀类篮球比赛，也在象征着“篮球天堂”的美国占据着属于自己的一席之地。在这个篮球的大环境下，故事却是围绕着一个名叫杰基·姆恩的歌手展开的，在那一曲《LoveMeSexy》深情款款的旋律下，他不但成为一支来自于密歇根州的ABA球队--弗林特热带队的老板兼教练，甚至还成了场上的主力队员。\r 然而，NBA宣布了决定合并ABA的计划，同时表示只会接纳其中四支成绩最优秀的比赛队伍进入NBA。至于剩下的球队，也就只能眼睁睁地面临着被解散的命运了。杰基为了挽救自己的球队，在前NBA的板凳球员莫尼克斯以及球技浮华的“城里人”克拉伦斯·威瑟斯的帮助下，决定重整他那已经等同于一盘散沙的球队，在最关键的时刻放手一搏，抢夺最后的席位和荣耀。
